One of our favourite new stores, Woo To See You,  is hosting a pop-up with one of the designers they carry! Nerea Lurgain, which can only be found at Woo, will be present at the store this Saturday for one day only. I immediately fell in love with her designs, and I bet you will too. Pop-Up Shops Recap: Citizen Grace and Eco Diva

Citizen Grace

Citizen Grace-10

A while back, I stopped by the Citizen Grace and Eco Diva pop-up at The Chinatown Experiment. It was great meeting the lovely duo behind the online boutique: Christina Heemskerk and Shannon Heth. One of the best things that came out of visiting the pop-up was getting introduced to the Australian Bardot brand. The girls brought on the line in July 2013, and since I haven’t seen it at any Vancouver boutiques, I think we all need to head on over to the website to check out this brand. It’s got great detail and interesting prints – way to stand out from everyone else shopping at the mall.

Eco Diva

Citizen Grace-7

Garcy Fry is the CEO of Eco Diva , an online boutique specializing in sustainable and luxurious beauty products. According to the website, her mother, founder Charlene Swanson Crawford believed in finding a better solution to makeup products and now runs the online store with her daughter. Not only are the products sustainable, the business also has a strong ethical foundation. Currently, a portion of the proceeds benefit one of four charities; with every purchase, you get to choose where your donated dollar goes toward.

The most interesting brand I came across was Kjaer Weis, which offers refillable eye shadow compacts. Check out the rest of the eye colours here on Eco Diva.

Style SEEN: Jennyfleur Loves x Holly Boutique Pop-Up Opening

Jennyfleur x Holly-2

Jennifer Gray is holding her beloved Jennyfleur Loves boutique as a pop-up shop at Holly Boutique from Dec 17th – 31st. We were at the grand opening and got the chance to browse the racks ourselves, which included lots of goodies, some of my favourite items were by WILDFOX. You can see me try on an awesome pair of diva sunnies!

I asked Jennifer how the idea for a pop-up shop came about; turns out that Holly had the idea and emailed Jenny. They had actually never previously met but had heard of one another, but Holly knew about Jennifer’s boutique moving out of Yaletown. This was experimental on Holly’s part too, having owned Holly Boutique for 4 years, it was the first time her store hosted a pop-up shop.

But it works out for the two self-described easygoing shop owners. In the past they had carried a few of the same things and some of their loyal clientele shop at both boutiques. What a great match!

Check out both the Jennyfleur Loves pop-up shop and Holly’s own line of brands at Holly Boutique. Jennyfleur Loves will be there for your shopping convenience until December 31st.

Chinatown Experiment 1 Year Anniversary

TCE 1yr Anniversary-1

The Chinatown Experiment held their one year anniversary at the shop on September 20th. Yummus Humus owner and TCE co-owner Yashar Nijati (Yash for short) held a pop-up in May, and has since joined the team alongside Devon Mackenzie. They both have not had any fashion experience in particular, but are both strong-business minded individuals who have owned businesses. During their first year, Style by Fire covered Betty Be Good and Charles&Grace and Whiskey Teacup‘s pop up boutiques – and we’re looking forward to many more exciting pop ups to come!

We also met Shannon Heth of Citizen Grace. Their online shop sells everything from local designers to international designers from countries like Australia. Apparently Shannon and I have a very similar taste – we both loved the Mink Pink furry black & white colour-blocked Mink Pink fashion coat. One of the local handmade jewlery brands they carry really stood out for its simple and bold personality: Army of Rokosz. Citizen Grace will be back at The Chinatown Experiment in November. Be sure to check them out then.

Style SEEN: Charles&Grace and Whiskey Teacup Clothing Pop-Up Shop

PopUp-2

The Chinatown Experiment space on Columbia Street in the heart of, you guessed it, Chinatown, has provided a low cost launch pad for local designers and artists to showcase their work and test the market in the form of a pop-up retail shop.  The latest team of designers to take advantage of this great opportunity was Charles&Grace Jewelry and Whiskey Teacup Clothing, who kicked off their 3-day shop with a launch party on Friday June 21st.

It would have been hard to miss spotting the party as it was totally rocking when I arrived.  Jam packed full of hip and trendy 20-somethings mingling and chatting on top of the booming tunes courtesy of the guest DJ, the vibe was electric.  To add to the atmosphere, there was a cash bar in the back, as well as fun props and accessories for attendees to don and take instagram-ic shots.

The designers behind Whisky Teacup: Laura Crossman and Sharlyn VandenBroek
 .
Whiskey Teacup instantly caught my eye, mainly because a selection of their pieces were made of clear plastic.  They made me think of the mod dresses and raincoats that were first introduced in the 60’s.  The modern Whiskey Teacup take consists of jackets, capelets, aprons, and similar items that are meant to be worn on top of your outfit so it acts as outerwear and yet you can still see what’s worn underneath.  The two designers behind the name are Sharlyn VandenBroek and Laura Crossman, two enterprising friends who buy unusual fabrics from Dressew and handmake all their pieces.  The pop-up shop was their grand debut.  They also design jewellery made of fabric and I quickly grabbed a necklace for $20.  It has been quickly put to use, featured in my photoshoot just two days later!  I love it; it adds texture and colour to any plain top.
Charles&Grace Jewelry specializes in delicate feminine gold pieces, but what stands out are their body jewelry.  These are thin chains that drape seductively over the torso.  I’d imagine they are meant to be worn on top of a body hugging dress, but there is always the option of having them adorn your birthday suit for a special someone.
.
It was inspiring to see all this support for local young designers and the energy was contagious.

Window Shopping at The Latest Scoop

Window Merchandising

This time around, The Latest Scoop pop-up shop will be on South Granville for 6 weeks. We peeked into the shop when it was closed and saw how beautifully merchandised everything was. It’s too bad because we would have loved to shop around.

Sneak Peek from outside

From the looks of it, there were lots of colourful summer midi and maxi dresses, light tunics, and an assortment of home decor goods. It reminded us a little bit of the store next door – Anthropologie.

Window Merchandising

I’ve been told the prices aren’t all that cheap, but the next time I’m in the neighbourhood I’ll definitely stop by and report back!

Sienna Ray & Co pops up in New York

Sienna Ray pop-up shop in Nolita

Vancouver’s Natalie Kathleen brings her leather goods to Nolita, New York, this winter season with a pop-up store! We’re so proud that Vancouver brands like Sienna Ray & Co are making waves in the Big Apple.

The pop-up shop also debuts RAY87, a men’s capsule collection of small leather goods.

For our New York friends, please check out the shop! It’s located at 252 Mott street between Houston & Prince. What a prime location!

Sienna Ray pop-up window details

I remember meeting the designer in 2009 at an event called Designers on Designers where the creative forces modelled one another’s fashion goods in a fun photo shoot.

Sienna Ray makes it on Racked – one of my favourite shopping blogs!
